Early one Sunday morning I got a phone call
- a friend of a friend, whose best friends father, Barry, had
just passed away.
I spent the next three days with the family where they live in Porirua, New Zealand.
The family, feeling there was so much
going on in the days leading up to his burial, wanted photographs they
could look back on in quieter times and reflect.
Barry was originally from Ireland, his
first wife was from the Cook Islands together they had four sons. When
the boys were young Barry was widowed. He went on to marry a woman from
the Phillipines who he had his fifth son with.
The funeral process was a blend of the family cultures and Catholism, it was also influenced by Barry's period of service in the New Zealand Army.
